Lithuania

Lithuania is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. Lithuania is considered to be one of the Baltic states. It is bordered by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the south, and Kaliningrad Oblast (a Russian exclave) to the southwest. Lithuania has an estimated population of 2.8 million people. The majority of the population lives in Vilnius County.

Lithuania has open and mixed economy that is classified as high-income economy by the World Bank. Three largest sectors in Lithuanian economy are – services, industry and agriculture.

Humana Baltic sponsorship in Lithuania

Since 2007, Humana Baltic has been committed to creating a social partnership in Lithuania with a focus on healthy nutrition and cooking skills of children and youth, especially from socially disadvantaged families. The social partnership objectives are realized through the programme, “Eat wisely”, what is implemented in partnership with local Child and Youth NGOs and Schools. In 2019, the programme will have reached more than four thousand children from all over the country. The “Eat wisely” edition for Schools is implemented in close cooperation with the Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.

Humana Baltic responds to requests for sponsorship in kind by social institutions and NGOs who care for people in need, e.g. refugees and asylum seekers at the Foreigners’ Registration center, inmates at the Remand Prison or bed-bound people with spinal cord injuries. Humana Baltic in 2018 donated more than 22 tons of second hand clothes and shoes, i.e., dressed up more than 20 thousand people of specific social groups in need.

Humana Baltic is a big tax payer in Lithuania. And in 2018 the was 158th among the top-taxpayers in Lithuania. Moreover, Humana Baltic is one of the founders of the Lithuanian NGO Platform for Development Cooperation and its members. The platform was established in 2007 and currently has 19 organizations.
